DIAMONDS ARE BEAUTIFUL; DIAMOND TREATMENT REMOVES THE FLAWS

Diamonds created by Mother Earth are remarkable in their original design and presence. However, the majority of diamonds are not surprisingly perfect. These diamonds usually have a yellow and brownish tint or visible internal flaws resulting in an unclean look. When these problems or flaws occur, they can be treated using a variety of enhancement methods and termed “diamond treatment” or “treated diamond,” or “enhanced diamond.” Relatively, the percentage of gem-quality diamonds are treated, and they are treated for two reasons: to improve clarity or to alter the color.

TYPES OF DIAMOND TREATMENT

The Geological Institute of America (GIA) has clarified the methods of diamond treatment as either color enhancing or clarity enhancing. The treatment methods include:

High-pressure, High-temperature Treatment (HPHT) – (click here) for the extensive knowledge from Teva Diamonds on this method.
Coatings – Involves covering the stone with a dye or thin-film masking the diamond tint.
Irradiation – Involves the use of radiation to alter the diamond color

Clarity enhancing diamond treatments entail the removal of specific flaws and is performed to increase the clarity rating. There are two types of clarity enhancing treatments laser drilling and fracture filling. Laser drilling is a continual process and does not require disclosure; however, fracture filling is not permanent, and disclosure is required.
