First discovered in Zimbabwe in 2001, black diamonds have quickly become a hot commodity in the diamond industry. Due to their rapidly increasing popularity, the Geological Institute of America (GIA) had to move to include the black diamond in their grading process and standards. A black diamond is a white diamond with a high number of inclusions spread out through the diamond, such that it appears to be black. Authentic untreated black diamonds are extremely rare and, as such, are expensive; however, they are priced less than superior quality white diamonds.Regular care and maintenance for Black Diamonds are the same as White Diamonds. Regular cleaning is recommended along with a diamond inspection.
